About Big Sky Haven
Big Sky Haven has been a long-time dream of ours. We prayed and searched for a quiet home away from the hustle and bustle of town that we could enjoy together. Even before we found the property, the Lord began placing details on our hearts about what He had in mind. We started by praying that anyone who entered this place would feel His peace and presence.
We had always planned to have a few horses, but over time the Lord began stirring in us a deeper desire- not just to enjoy them ourselves, but to share His immense love with others through the horses and the beautiful surroundings. One by one, people of all ages began spending time with us in the field riding or grooming the horses and being met intimately by their loving Father in profound and unique ways.
In June of 2025, six young ladies participated in our first Big Sky Haven Days camp, and that sparked the desire to offer more dates in 2026 so that even more girls and boys can experience a day at Big Sky Haven.
Why the name Big Sky Haven?
When we first moved here, our family was coming out of a difficult season, including a house fire at the home we had lived in for seventeen years. With little sleep and long days spent cleaning and sorting through fire-soaked belongings, we took breaks by stepping onto one of our porches and lifting our eyes to the vast blue sky.
It didn’t take long for us to realize we would include “Big Sky” in the name- not only because of the view, but because we serve a Big God! We kept coming back to our desire for this place to be one of
peace, restoration, and joy. And
then it clicked…Big Sky Haven.
About Our Horses
Meet Storm
Storm is a 22-year-old Quarter Horse who joined Big Sky Haven from just a few houses down the road. With a background in show jumping and barrel racing, he still loves to put on a little show when the moment calls for it.
Though he’s a seasoned gentleman, Storm hasn’t quite decided he’s ready to act like one. Some days he remembers he’s an older man, and other days he’s convinced he’s still a spirited kid. Either way, he is incredibly gentle, kind, and safe… the kind of horse that quietly builds confidence in the riders who spend time with him.
Storm was the very first horse to come to Big Sky Haven. From the beginning, he helped set the tone for what this place would become… a space marked by beauty, safety, wisdom, and peace. We truly believe the Lord used Storm to establish that foundation.
Storm’s favorite things: fresh spring grass, crunchy carrots, belly rubs, and a good ride with a trusted friend.
Meet Vincent
Vincent Van Woah is a 17-year old Paint Quarter Horse who arrived at Big Sky Haven one month after Storm. Our daughter had always dreamed of having a paint horse of her own, so when we agreed it was time, she began searching for her perfect match and she found him… Just not in the way she expected.
Previously named “Tobasco,” which in hindsight makes sense, Vincent came from a rescue where he had not been properly cared for. We do not know all the details of his past, but we do know he experienced neglect and hardship. When he first came to Big Sky Haven, he was understandably unsure of people and at times a little… spirited.
It took time, patience, and a great deal of intentional care to earn Vincent’s trust. As trust grew on both sides, something beautiful began to happen! With steady training, consistency, and love, Vincent softened. Today he is kind, affectionate, and deeply loyal. He thrives on attention and has become a sweet and special horse here at Big Sky Haven.
He is a bit of a goofball with a strong personality and he is absolutely stunning, inside and out. Watching Vincent’s transformation has been a reminder of the power of patience, healing, and grace.
Vincent’s favorite things: treats, cuddles, nose kisses, long brushing sessions, and a full hay pile.
Meet Judah
Judah is a 4-year-old Bay Dun Quarter Horse who joined Big Sky Haven on New Year’s Eve 2025. He is still young and very much carries that playful, baby energy. Full of curiosity and enthusiasm, Judah brings a lively spirit to the pasture while remaining gentle and kind.
We purchased Judah from McKinsley Slicker at Precision Equine, where he was boarded and trained for two months to help prepare him for continued work at Big Sky Haven. Since arriving, he has continued his training with consistency and care. Though still learning, Judah has proven to be smart, willing, and safe as he grows into his role.
He loves to show off his big smile and has a natural way of bringing smiles to everyone around him. With each passing month, Judah gains confidence and maturity. We are excited to see him continue developing and, in time, welcome new friends and share joyful rides at Big Sky Haven Days!
Judah’s favorite things: running long distances, sunbathing in the field, trying to convince the other horses to play, checking out anything new, and having fun!
